Role of Research and Education Director
The Research and Education Director manages all communication between the Local and its members, such as the newsletter, and between the Local and the general public, such as letters to the editor. He also implements education programs and seminars for members, and collects information to help the Business Agents, Organizer, and members to be prepared during negotiations.
Role of Organizer
The organizer's job is to increase Teamster membership through helping workers at non-unionized companies become unionized. The organizer sometimes responds to requests to unionize from workers, but most of his work is done through reaching and out and meeting people on the job. The organizer informs the workers about the benefits of the Teamsters and manages the logistical procedures of unionizing until the election process is complete.
Role of Business Agents
The 8 Business Agents manage contract negotiations, grievance hearings, and any issues that the Shop Stewards bring to their attention. They maintain consistent communication with the Shop Stewards, who work directly with members and act to ensure that their companies fulfill their contractual obligations. Four of the Business Agents are also members of the Executive Board.
Role of Administrative Assistants
The two administrative assistants help make everyone else's job much easier. They handle inquiries from members and potential members; type contracts, letters, briefs, and agendas; manage the scheduling of meetings and events; and maintain databases of information on union shops.
